Testimonials

"Both my children play cricket for Middlesex and as you can imagine have seen a multitude of coaches, be it county, club or privately paid for.

Too often young players get over coached and have their natural game changed, because it does not fit with the current coaching orthodoxy. The key to Scott's coaching is that he has a complete grasp of the mechanics of cricket, but most importantly the ability to bring out the best abilities of a young player with the minimal disruption to their natural playing style. It really is of no surprise that he has nurtured so many county players, especially spin bowlers. His ability to bowl and coach leg spin bowling is something to behold, and not just his technical proficiency. His understanding of the art of bowling is something that makes him very special as a coach and he is lucky to have learnt his cricket with some of the finest Australian cricketers of his generation. It is this experience and knowledge that makes Scott such a good cricket coach.

Being a good cricketer is only half the battle, getting on with the people you coach is not enough, you have to be able to inspire them and get them performing at the highest level and given that cricket is a game where it is very easy to experience lows, get the player back up on their feet and playing confidently again.

Like most cricketers my son has had moments when he feels he will score runs every time he bats and times when he can't get the ball off the square. Importantly Scott is always there to help, be it a conversation with my wife or I, or finding time to fit in an extra net for my son. There is never any judgment, only a real desire to help. Scott is great at getting you in the net; identifying your problem and helping you work through your issues. He always does this in the best of humour and no fuss - bearing in mind this is usually done with a parent bearing down on him! I think this is an important point, we should never under estimate the pressure that is brought to bear on a coach by parents in this day and age, and from what I've seen, Scott handles the parents exceedingly well and is very good at communicating with them.

Young crickets respond to Scott, they respect him, his knowledge of the game is outstanding and he has played with the best - how many coaches out there trained and shared a room with Shane Warne? Having played cricket with players like Warne, he understands pressure, playing in the big games, working with a team and how to win. His laid back nature belies a steeliness that is transferred to children he coaches, he does expect the very best from those he coaches and the children respond very positively to it.

Scott is a charming person, who I hold in the highest esteem for the work that he has done and with my children, both of whom are playing cricket at very high level. It is his time, patience, understanding and knowledge that has helped get them to be the players they are."

"It is with the greatest pleasure that I am able to recommend the services of Scott Moody. He has been coaching my son Henry for over four years now and in that time has turned him from an enthusiastic but capricious cricketer into a highly-valued and regular member of the Surrey County Age Group (CAG) squad that he has represented for the last three years. This is yet another success story as Henry is one of a long line of Scott’s regulars to go on to represent Surrey or Middlesex at CAG level.

The primary reason he is such a successful coach is his in-depth knowledge of the technical side of the game and his ability to effectively impart this knowledge to those he is teaching regardless of their age and ability. The Surrey coaches in charge of Henry have often commented how unusual it is to meet someone who has such a deep understanding of what he is doing, this can be attributed entirely to Scott.

In addition to the technical side, Scott is always happy to share the huge amount of experience that he has garnered throughout his time playing with the very best in the business. This has enabled him to empathise with the pressures of competitive cricket being faced by his charges, providing them with suitable strategies for managing the mental challenges they face whilst maintaining the decorum required of a county-level player. This is of huge importance as it shows an appreciation for the complete cricketer, something which is featuring more prominently in the county set-up.

Finally, Scott’s approach to coaching always brings the best out of his pupils. He is extremely popular with all of them and quickly gains respect so that their enthusiasm drives them on to achieve excellent results.

Every now and then you run into someone who is so on top of their game that you wonder what you did before you met them, Scott is one of those people."

“Scott is a world-class cricketer with an eye for talent. His love and passion for the sport transforms enthusiastic young boys to dedicated and motivated athletes. Our son’s highlight of any week is the time he spends with Scott. He is patient but firm and gets the best out of any boy, who wants to learn.”

My son has been coached by Scott since 2019 and has developed into a competitive leg-spinner for his age group resulting in him being selected for Surrey County-Age-Group and having the ability to play above his age level for Club and School. Scott has a unique ability to breakdown the fine motor skills required in the bowling action and through regular feedback he is able to help his students pin point where to correct it for improvements - and more importantly have the student know how to correct it themselves.

"The coaching structure that Scott Moody has devised to teach young people how to play cricket is both innovative and highly effective.

Scott has been coaching my son 10 year old Leo for the past 18 months. Although keen to learn the art of spin bowling, Leo had no idea of the intricacies involved in producing a ‘leg break’ when he first started with Scott.

Over the past year and a half Leo has blossomed to the extent that he was selected for the Surrey District Winter programme 2012/13 and Middlesex Borough summer fixtures this year. He would also have been selected for the Surrey District summer fixtures but was not allowed to play for both boroughs at the same time.

Scott’s approach to coaching is honed from the experience and skills he learnt in Australia under the tutelage of the likes of Terry Jenner. The result is a coaching system that really is unique to this country. I urge anyone with an interest in learning to bowl to give Scott and his talents very careful consideration."

Cameron moved from U14B’s to the 1st XI in lower sixth.  My only regret is that we didn’t hear of Scott before that U14 summer.  So many well qualified coaches claimed to teach him leg spin but it is a particular art that requires a very particular coach.  Thank you for making him enjoy the game even more than he did.

“Scott Moody is without doubt one of the most highly recognised specialist youth spin bowling coach in the Greater London area. He has the ability and the patience to guide his students systematically through all the required phases and dynamics of successful spin bowling. From the outset he ensures that they understand that the whole purpose of the run up is to get into the gather position with momentum. He also teaches practical drills which can be used in pre match warm ups. He has no difficulty in gaining the trust and confidence of his students and his sessions are always well attended and supported both on a group and 1-2-1 basis. Not surprisingly he has provided a steady flow of accomplished and promising spin bowlers to both Middlesex and Surrey County and District youth teams.”
