About Us

"Scott is a charming person, who I hold in the highest esteem for the work that he has done and with my children, both of whom are playing cricket at a very high level. It is his time, patience, understanding and knowledge that has helped get them to be the players they are."

Scott Moody has been improving the bowling action of young cricketers for many years. He has an excellent track record of developing promising young cricketers, from beginners to county-level players. A large number of young cricketers coached by Scott have been selected to play for England county teams as a direct result of his training.

Better Bowling is for:

> Leg spinners from 8 years to adult;

> Off spinners from 8 years to adult;

> Swing and Seam bowlers from 8 years to adult;

> Beginner Bowlers from 6 years and up;

> Bowlers of all ages with faulty or self taught actions

Leg Spinners

Scott is a world class leg-spin bowling coach. Scott has:

> Attended the Australian Institute of Sport Cricket Academy and at 19 years of age was asked by Terry Jenner if he wanted to turn his leg spinner like Shane Warne. Scott was a self taught leg spinner who bowled a lot of top spinners and wrong-uns. He of course said yes please, and thus underwent a dramatic and frustrating change to his action. Under the guidance of Terry Jenner, Scott learnt how to turn his leg spinner. Just like the students Scott coaches now he too went through the process of learning to bowl a leg spinner, he now understands the action and can fully relate to all the frustrations associated with learning the art.

> Scott lived and played alongside Australian cricketing legend Shane Warne for a year. Both Scott and Shane were coached and tutored by the late Terry Jenner. Scott was taught the same techniques, processes and strategies that helped to make Shane Warne arguably the best bowler of all time. Scott has a passion for coaching leg spinners and he would love to discover and coach the next Shane Warne.

> Scott assisted Terry Jenner in leg spin bowling courses in Australia and in the United Kingdom.

> Scott played A grade cricket in Australia and the United Kingdom for over 25 years. He has taken many wickets and has been an important member of many successful Cricket teams.

> Scott was a Physical Education teacher with a passion for cricket coaching for over 20 years. He watched children struggle with the complexities of the bowling action, particularly leg spin and he experimented with various methods of teaching throughout this time.

Scott developed the Better Bowling method, a combined result of Scott’s expertise as a teacher, his experiences as a student under Jenner, his ‘A‘ grade cricket career bowling leg spin and ultimately his experience as a leg spin bowling coach. There are very few, if any, coaches around today with Scott’s background and knowledge of leg spin. If you are a leg spin bowler then Scott is the coach for you.

Off Spin Bowling or Left arm Orthodox Bowling

Off Spin bowling is more common than leg spin bowling because the basics of the action and wrist position are easier to understand. It is, however, an equally difficult skill to perform at an elite standard. It takes real skill to impart revolutions on the ball equal to that of a leg spinner. Scott understands the process required to achieve this. He also understands the importance of line, length, pace and patience, all of which are crucial to the success of all spin bowling types. Spin Bowling is an art form and whether you are a leg spinner or an off spinner, Scott has the experience and knowhow to make you a better bowler. Wrist position, alignment, flight, pace and revolutions on the ball are as equally important to an off spinner as they are to a leg spinner. Scott understands these core principles of spin bowling and he is well equipped to teach them to his students.

Swing and Seam Bowlers / Beginners / Faulty Actions

Scott has been teaching children to bowl for over 25 years and during this time he has seen thousands of different bowling actions. He has identified many common mistakes among the children he has taught. What Scott has realised is that no bowling action is the same and that all actions have a combination of good and bad components to them. Scott is very good at keeping the good components of the individual’s action and correcting the bad. He coaches the individual so that over time they will possess a bowling action which:

> Repeats itself under pressure;

> Allows the bowler to perform the skills of their bowling type;

> Reduces the chance of injury;

> Allows the bowler to achieve their full potential;

> Gives the bowler an understanding and knowledge of their action so that they can correct it if things go wrong.

The Better Bowling method is not complicated; it is easy to understand once you grasp the basics of it. No matter whether you are a swing, seam, beginner or spin bowler the basic principles of a bowling action remain the same. These basic principles include the gather position, alignment, weight distribution, power, wrist position, release point, run up and follow through. They differ for each bowling type but the principles must be working in order for a bowling action to be consistent and ultimately successful.

What separates Scott from the average coach is his ability to find the core of the problem and then fix it. He has a great eye for detail and he will make you a BETTER BOWLER. He hopes to meet you soon.

Scott has a unique method for teaching bowling which is different from anything seen in schools, cricket clubs or county set ups. This is his strength and it is why cricketers who want to improve their action should book a Better Bowling coaching session.

Scott developed this simple yet effective method over years of coaching youngsters who struggle to grasp the complexities of bowling. His training as a PE teacher equipped him with an understanding of how to break complex sporting actions into their simplest parts in order to help pupils to develop their skills. He has combined this knowledge with the experience he gained as a pupil of Terry Jenner at the Australian Academy of Sport Cricket Academy, and used it to create the Better Bowling method.

The Better Bowling method involves breaking the action of bowling a cricket ball down into simple and precise movements and explaining why each movement must be correct in order to achieve a good and repeatable bowling action.

Even in group coaching sessions, Scott focuses on teaching each individual according to their needs. All bowling actions and individuals are different and every player will have parts of their action that need to be corrected or improved. If these components are not learned correctly, then the chances of a student reaching their maximum potential are limited.

Through a step by step process, Scott works with every student to gradually put all the movements back together to form the whole action. Along the way he corrects any mistakes or bad habits the cricketer may have which are detrimental to achieving their maximum potential as a bowler.

Beyond the method, Scott is interested in the whole cricketer. Whilst teaching the right bowling method, he works on helping his pupils develop the right positive mental attitude needed to excel in the game.

The Better Bowling method has proven successful for many young cricketers. Click here to read·testimonials from students and their parents.

"Scott’s approach to coaching is honed from the experience and skills he learnt in Australia under the tutelage of the likes of Terry Jenner. The result is a coaching system that really is unique to this country."
